FAQS
Q. How do I get a suitable nurse/carer for my relative?
A.By contacting us either via e-mail (info@sharingthecare.ie) or by telephone (051-428100, 087-2958443). We can discuss your relative’s needs and preferences, and ascertain whether a nurse or carer is required to suit the medical and individual needs of the patient. We will then match the patient with the staff member who best fits their needs
Q. Is there any financial assistance from the HSE or government to help towards the cost of homecare?
A. There is a homecare grant available from the HSE called the Home Care Support Scheme, which pays up to a maximum of €190.50 per week. You can read about this scheme here: www.citizensinformation.ie/categories/health/health-services-for-older-people/home-care-packages-for-carers. Forms are available from your local health centre. Your public health nurse should also be able to provide information about this scheme to you. Family members may also be entitled to a carer’s allowance.
Q. Can I claim tax relief for employing a carer/nurse.
A. Anyone employing a carer/nurse in the home is entitled to tax relief at their higher level of tax, up to €50,000 per year. You’ll find the “Employed Person Taking Care of an Incapacitated Individual” form at the following link: www.revenue.ie/en/tax/it/leaflets/it47.pdf
Q. What experience do your carers have?
A. All our carers have a minimum of two years experience in a hospital or nursing home setting, as well as continued homecare experience through Sharing The Care. Our carers also have completed a patient manual handling course.
