HOME CARERS
The homecare service is ideal for patients with special needs, the elderly, or to those needing medical assistance due to:
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Head injuries (following an accident, surgery etc.)
- Rehabilitation (after surgery, car accident etc.)
- Stroke
- Radiotherapy/Chemotherapy
- Palliative care
- Parkinson’s disease
- Alzheimer’s
- Diabetes
- Arthritis
- Mental or physical disabilities
Home carers will assist in the following tasks:
- Assistance with washing and dressing
- Grooming hair, nails, dentures, shaving etc.
- Preparation of meals
- Keeping daily record of food and fluid intake
- Toileting regularly
- Checking skin integrity
- Helping with housekeeping
- Making bed, keeping patients personal space tidy, clean and hygienic
- Assisting with exercise, including walking outdoors if able
- Checking medication are taken as prescribed
- Grocery shopping including creating shopping list and disposing of outdated food
- Picking up prescriptions
- Maintaining safety and comfort of the patient
- Contacting next of kin and Sharing The Care manager, Sharon Bolger, if worried about a change in patient’s health and condition
- Encouraging stimulating activities—discussion of day-to-day happenings and current events; crosswords and puzzles; reading books etc.
- Encourage visits to day care centre, mass etc.
- Reminding patient of appointments to hairdresser, GP, etc.
- Companionship
